What could be the story of Black Friday?

Some say it could be that the history goes back to the 17th and 19th centuries where plantation owners in the southern U.S. could buy slaves at a "discount" the day after Thanksgiving. But the story actually dates back closer to the 1960s where merchants wanted to increase their sales during the holidays and discounted the day after Thanksgiving.

And why is it called that?

It seems that commercial stores during those years were not making a profit and were in the red all year long. And when this Friday arrived, full of discounts for customers, their numbers changed from red to black because they made a profit thanks to the large amount of purchases.

When is Black Friday, on what dates?

As history tells us, Black Friday used to be celebrated the day after Thanksgiving, the third Friday of November, and for 60 years now the tradition has been going on in the USA, providing great profits for retailers.

And that's why we are working very hard, to continue with the tradition, and bring you the best deals on November 24th 2023, and celebrate Black Friday in style.

After 50 years, in the summer of 2012, it was incorporated in Spain because before it could not happen because the law regulated the sales periods to protect small businesses. Gradually it became a gap between large companies and it was not until 2015 that more than two million people bought.

Today, Black Friday has been combined with Cyber Monday where the sales last more than one day as in the US, the whole weekend, plus the following Monday where all companies that have a website offer the same deals only on the online platform.

Black Friday History

It could be said that it dates back to the 50's, exactly in 1951, when Thanksgiving Friday became a chaos in Philadelphia because of a terrible traffic because of the great discounts offered by the stores on that day, and also because the next day there was an important soccer game between the army and the navy, so the whole population was going in the same direction. And for that reason, the police had to work for more than 12 hours to keep the traffic flowing properly and so they named this day as Black Friday.

As the media liked this term they used it in their articles. The first to do so was The American Philatelist in its magazine in 1966, but it did not spread across the country until a decade later when The New York Times had the intention of naming Black Friday, in an article, to the circulatory problem of that day.

It is also said to refer to the surplus recorded by the companies that offered these discounts on that particular day, and the red numbers they had in their accounts were "dyed in the black" thanks to the large purchases they made.
