And now, a little bit of history...

How did it all start?

Legend has it that a ship full of European immigrants arrived at the port of New York with a figure of St. Nicholas carved on the bow, because its captain said so. Then it is said that on the night of December 24, Christmas Eve, today, the figure of St. Nicholas came to life and flew over all the houses to bring gifts to the children.

We can also find the story of a man named Nicholas, where he was a priest who inherited a great fortune from his parents and as he loved the little children he thought that the best way to invest that inherited money was to give them gifts. The way he did it was going down the chimney of the houses at night so that they would not discover him and have the big surprise the next day to find all those gifts for them.

It has never been known for sure which stories are real, so all we can do is enjoy the innocence of the little ones at home and their big smiles as they open all the presents, and the occasional not-so-little one too.

Christmas today

For some time now Christmas has not had the same religious tradition as before, it has simply become a celebration of family togetherness, where gifts are given to each other. And it is known that Santa Claus comes from the North Pole with his wife Mama Noel, and some elves help him to make the toys that will be distributed to the children's houses on Christmas Eve, December 24, by Santa Claus accompanied by his reindeer and will come down the chimney to leave them under the tree.

From the 19th century is when Christmas began to become popular with the character it has today, because in this century the custom of exchanging gifts was popularized, Santa Claus was created and the habit of giving Christmas cards was created.

It was exactly in 1931 in the United States when a large well-known soft drink brand, Coca-Cola, commissioned the cartoonist known as Thomas Nast to draw a more human Santa Claus and to convey a more friendly and cheerful image for its Christmas campaign. Hence, the Santa Claus we know today is a fat man, dressed in red, with black boots and a very pronounced white beard.

All this made Santa Claus not only a Christmas character, but also an advertising brand, which guarantees success to brands that want to attract the attention of children with their products. We can also see that it is used as a Christmas advertisement for urban areas.
